Day 7 - making room

making room

a lilting embrace and
crumpled bills exchanged,
cascading haphazardly
onto the nightstand,
some down to the floor,

and lower still there is

dignity, absorbed by
the creaky planks,
yielding
to his want,
her need,
vibrating with
each urgent thrust
to fill the emptiness
keenly felt by both

a lilting embrace and
crumpled bills exchanged,
cascading haphazardly
downward as wrinkled
afterthoughts to be
meticulously
collected later
while still on her knees, still
filthy with sweat and the
best of the worst of him

pooling between her thighs,

still sorting through the
spent clothing and
condom wrappers
to fill her pockets with
green love notes that promise
to prolong the
keen emptiness
of her existence

a lilting embrace and
crumpled bills exchanged,
cascading haphazardly
from the swollen pockets
of a man who should
want for nothing, except
nothing wants more than his
shaking hands that clutch at
all things seen and unseen,

his air, her hair,
lonely pair stricken bare
embracing the grip
each sense a gift

flesh, breast, skin, sin,
bone, lonely tears,
home and fear,
fire, passion, liar
lashin in the dark,
thrashin for some spark
to ignite the
unending night, warming
the pulsating walls
clenching, surrounding
the keen emptiness

of his existence

NaPoWriMo's day seven challenge is to write a poem about money. Armed with that inspiration, here is my effort.

  3. You've really captured the emptiness and desperation within the "exchange".
