Warrior’s Debut

Warrior’s Debut

On one fair path soldiers use to abscond
A young man paused to linger and to wander
Poor sightlines veiled his vision to beyond
Beyond next tree, might be, untimely squander
The sun hangs low, urging him to respond
Artillery shells curl withdraw to yonder
With no remaining choice, unlike a dunderhead
This willowy youth uncorks like a thunderhead
