Summer’s End (A Tanka Trilogy)

Summer’s End (A Tanka Trilogy)

Evening reflections
Setting sun flirts with the clouds
Casting peaceful hues
Inside a thundercloud blooms
In the place she vacated

The sky glows purple
Fading, indigo, then black
Night air, warm and thick
Each breath, a lonely labor
A struggle with abandon

In the humid night
Surrounded by her shadows
Denied my relief
I laugh at the absurdness
Because she was never mine
